Introduction

 

The purpose of this E-Book on Natural health is not to alarm you in anyway but to bring information to you which is generally not available in a single publication. Often after searching through many pages on the web of very conflicting information we are left with a feeling of confusion and bewilderment as to what is fact or fiction, if we want to either recover or regain good health or simply to ensure our health doesn't degenerate into a morass of allopathic drugs and medical treatments. Please read the information I have gathered below with an open mind. It is information I have researched and put into practice for myself and family after a life time of studying Natural Health and the effects of chemicals on our metabolism. I am confident that anyone who implements the recommendations I make will enjoy a vastly increased state of well-being. However a word of warning... Do not try any self treatment or take yourself off prescribed drugs without consulting with an experienced Health Practitioner first. The information in this E-Book is not to be taken as medical advice..

 

First and foremost in your quest for better health you must take action immediately to isolate your exposure to and STOP USING TOXIC CHEMICALS in your personal care items and toiletries. Just as importantly REMOVE TOXIC CHEMICALS from your diet and LIMIT YOUR EXPOSURE to environmental poisons and chemicals as much as possible.

 

To reach a state of good health and to maintain your wellbeing you need to address health from a holistic point of view.  That is, instead of isolating a symptom and embarking on a course of allopathic treatment of the specific problem as Western medicine does, a holistic approach will take into account all factors that will have a bearing on how you feel. With this in mind I have gathered from my own personal experience of Natural Health and modern "healthcare" a condensed summary of what is needed for optimum health.

 

This E-Book is designed to draw attention to all the areas that need to be addressed from a holistic point of view. That is if you want to break the cycle of chronic diseases such as ME MS Crohn's disease psoriasis, arthritis, heart disease, cancer etc. just to name a few of the more serious metabolic and degenerative disorders our modern Western civilisation is plagued by. Diseases which once were virtually unknown but are now common place and increasing at an alarming rate. It is entirely up to you how far you would want to go as far as implementing the advice given.

 

Before we move on please ask yourself this question: Could the huge influx of toxic chemicals in the last 40 years into our diets, personal care items, work place and also the type of diet and lifestyle we lead, be playing an important part in the spiralling rate of metabolic and degenerative diseases?  Read on and draw your own conclusions!

 

Biased Information

Now we are not in the business of knocking doctors.  The vast majority of doctors are caring people who have their patients health and welfare at heart. However the average doctors knowledge for up to date and ongoing information on health once they leave medical school, is more often than not, gleaned from biased literature put out by drug companies.  I guess you would realise that drug company produced literature may be somewhat biased towards selling their own drugs!  To a very large extent vested interests play a very big part in perpetrating biased test results for their own products. Of course vested interests are profit driven.  The long term good health and vitality of the people who use their drugs is often the last thing on their minds.  Unfortunately  it is common to see vested interests, in tandem with "medical experts" (doctors and scientists on government payrolls) going to great lengths to discredit and often ruin doctors who use natural therapies that give positive results. This practice of hounding doctors who use a preventative health approach has been going on for years with many sincere and genuine doctors being forced to give up their  holistic approach completely or risk ostracising by the medical establishment.

 

Powerful Vested Interests

Drug and chemical companies are among the most powerful corporations in the world, (collectively they are probably the most powerful) and they will protect their bottom line... BIG PROFIT at any cost.  The health of millions in the world today is immaterial to them as long as they can answer to their shareholders and show a BIG PROFIT. The profit that some of the large pharmaceutical and chemical companies make is quite obscene when you realise how little it costs to manufacture some of the synthetic chemicals which are used in the drugs they supply.  The cost of the container and the packaging is often worth far more than the tiny amount of chemical in the drug itself.  In many cases the cost of the cap on the bottle would cost less than the drug inside to manufacture.  Yet these drugs (chemicals) are sold on via the NHS at prohibitive prices.  Prices that the average person simply cannot afford unless it is on prescription.  Ultimately we as taxpayers are funding this massive rip off of the health system by continuing to place our health in the hands of people who play right into the hands of these massive corporations.   Needless to say the lobbying power they (chemical companies) exert on governments is phenomenal and impossible for any individual government to resist. 

 

No cure for any major illness will ever be found

It is important to note that it is not in the financial interests of any drug or chemical company to ever find a "cure" for any disease, so long as they can continue to produce and market exorbitantly priced drugs and chemicals which give some relief to the sufferer, but no long term "cure" of the problem.  It would be like shooting yourself in both feet when you relied on your feet to get you to the hunting grounds!  Take AIDS for instance.... It is a tragic fact that more people die from the drugs administered for aids than from the so-called disease of AIDS.  We wont go into the causes of AIDS here but rest assured that vast fortunes are being made by the drug companies who supply the savage and debilitating drugs that doctors use to "treat" AIDS with.

 

No amount of superficial allopathic chemical treatment will ever remove the underlying cause of a metabolic or autoimmune dysfunction disease!

  

Toxic Drugs

Put simply... trying to "cure" a disease by using toxic drugs and chemicals, will in most instances, only make the immune system of the patient even more compromised and leave them open to ongoing recurrences of the exact problem they are trying to overcome.  Often the individuals immune system is so weakened by savage medical treatments, (take the case of cancer and the dreadfully toxic and poisonous chemotherapy drugs) that other debilitating maladies, such as liver failure, sets in.  Often causing the death of the patient.  Not to worry... the patient just becomes another medical statistic and is buried along with countless thousands of others who meet the same fate. Did you know that "death by doctoring" is now the third largest cause of death in the USA.  It is right up there with cancer and heart disease!  If this is a horrifying thought to you, then you need to be looking a lot more closely at what is happening in the medical industry.  In the Uk it is not much better than the US!

 

How you can help yourself!

Lets get down to the nitty gritty of this report and see what you can do to help yourself to perhaps recover from disease or to prevent disease from occurring in the first place..  Notice I don't say cure!  No cure exists for disease as such!   In fact no cure exists for anything!  Strange... what about all these success stories about the wonderful medical treatments and breakthroughs we are constantly hearing about.  How they are going to "cure cancer" and "cure heart disease" and stroke and arthritis and... and ... and... and so on!

 

Medical Propaganda

Well some of us got sick of the medical propaganda machine years ago and decided that there was more to health than placing your life in the hands of people trained in one thing only.  People trained to treat the symptoms of disease.  Professional medical people who ignore the body's ability to fight off disease naturally.  Professional people who often fail to recognise that each and everyone of us has the inbuilt resources to recover from virtually every disease known, if the right tools are placed at the body's disposal. Provided the body is not so depleted and exhausted from trying to handle the toxic and multiple effects of drugs, then it is foregone conclusion it (the body) will make a full recovery!  The body just needs to be given an equal chance to fight disease in the first place for a healing process to take place.  Now I am not saying there aren't some drugs that do some good. Combined with a nutritional approach then there are a few drugs which do a lot of good and may help you to recover your good health. However, perhaps the concept of detoxifying the body and boosting a person's immune system is too simple to grasp if you have spent years learning how to diagnose disease so you can treat it with drugs!  

 

While-ever the people in charge of our healthcare system blindly carry on believing that disease is caused by a germ or virus or some pathogen, or the latest thing is that we have a genetic predisposition to various disease, we as a population, will continue to suffer ever increasing ill health and an ever increasing plethora of drugs to treat the symptoms with.  You must take control of your own health if you want to remain well!

 

Disease has always existed

I don't deny that disease in the form of bacteria and viruses and some genetic disorders do exist.  Of course they do!  However, if they are such a problem as made out to be by the medical propaganda, then why didn't the human race die out years ago after succumbing to all these so-called dreadful diseases there is no cure for?  I will tell you why.  Man, when he ate a balanced diet of vegetables some fruit and berries and hunted for his meat and caught fish, ate a perfectly balanced nutrient and mineral dense diet that prevented  the vast majority of these disease occurring in the first place.  In other words although all these "modern" diseases have always been with us, the pathogens, or more correctly, the degenerative metabolic disorders could not find the  weakened immune systems to flourish in!

 

Did you know for instance that heart disease and cancer were extremely rare even at the turn of the 20th century?

 

Billions spent

Surely with the massive health budgets of billions and billions of pounds now being spent by governments in the Western world, someone would make a stand and come out and tell everyone how to prevent metabolic disease, simply by implementing a proper nutritional programme and eliminating known toxic chemicals from the diet and also making a stand about the toxins in everyday toiletries. A simple boost to the immune system may be all that is needed in many cases to prevent disease occurring in the first place.  You would think with all this massive amount of money being spent, that our Western civilisations would be getting on top of metabolic disease and be in a position to distribute some of the money saved to poorer countries to help with their nutrition.

 

Vested interests will not let it happen

This simple and effective approach will never occur because vested interest has too much to lose.  The attitude of treating the symptoms and not encouraging the body to recover or simply to prevent disease by proper education re diet and nutrition, has condemned more people to death in the last century than the combined death toll of every major and minor war that ever occurred since Christ was born!  It has also made many people in powerful positions, incredibly wealthy and kept millions of people throughout the world employed in the massive health care industry.

Okay what can be done about regaining and maintaining vital good health?

 

Cures DO NOT exist

As you have probably guessed by now, we don't believe in "curing" anything.  I repeat a "cure" does not exist for any disease.  However, it is reasonable to suppose that everyone can recover from disease, (provided their immune systems has not been so compromised by drugs that they will never recover) by following the simple steps outlined  in this report.

 

Vibrant Health

Read through the steps to vibrant good health and think seriously about implementing them.  That is if you want to rid your body of any metabolic or degenerative disease.  You will be amazed at how your body responds and how well you feel after a relatively short period of time.  A well body will shrug off an auto-immune problem effortlessly and make the world of difference to your energy levels and sense of well-being.

 

Knowledge is Power!

Below is an abbreviated list of actions and a short description of what you need to do to start your recovery programme.  I will deal with each point in depth further on in the E-book.

 

Empower yourself with knowledge.

 

  1. Clean up your diet!  The food we eat is a major contributing factor in the disorders we suffer from.  Chemicals have invaded our food supplies in almost every facet of the food chain.  From organophosphates sprayed on our crops to a myriad of food additives used in the manufacturing of "safe" food.  Our bodies are becoming receptacles for an accumulation of toxic junk. It is estimated that each and everyone of us who blindly carry on eating the accepted Western diet consumes over a 2 kilos of toxic chemicals in our food every year.

  2. Clean up your toiletries!  Did you know that what you put on your skin is readily absorbed into your body?   Have a look at your toothpaste or your shampoo labels.  Do you see Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) listed?  This chemical is a skin irritant and a powerful sensitiser.  It may lodge in the liver and other internal organs and can sensitise people to other chemicals.  Most psoriasis and eczema sufferers have an allergy to it and don't even know!

  3. Sort out any food intolerances or sensitivities you have.  Food intolerance such as occurs when someone is allergic to the wheat protein gluten are far more common than medical people ever realise.  In fact the vast majority of doctors just don't recognise such a thing as food intolerance exists. Gluten intolerance is recognised but there are many other major and minor symptoms caused by intolerance to specific foods. Food intolerance, hypoglycaemia and chemical sensitivity are closely related problems and may affect well over half the population in varying degrees.

  4. Supplement with bio-available minerals and vitamins.  Unfortunately the saying uttered by many nutritionists and doctors who are often nutritionally bankrupt themselves "you can get all the nutrients you need from a balanced diet" has created an enormous amount of unnecessary suffering and death.  Most of our crops for human consumption are now grown on mineral deficient soils and the problem is becoming worse every year.  Supplementation is the only way to get all the vital nutrients and anti-oxidants in the quantities the body needs to remain completely healthy and free of disease.

  5. Eat live food!  That is food that has not been denatured by manufacturing or by long periods of storage after it has been sprayed by chemicals to stop it going off.  If you can afford to buy locally produced organic food then do this.  It is part of your guarantee towards obtaining vibrant good health

  6. De-stress yourself.  Take a break and allow yourself to unwind.  Use exercise as a tool to let your body normalise the hormones that are running rampant when you are stressed.

  7. Ensure your diet includes specific phyto-nutrients.  It is a proven fact that certain  phyto (plant) nutrients protect us from disease.  Well known ones are lycopene found in sun ripened tomatoes and more recently red grape skin extract to name but two of dozens discovered in recent years.  However there are many other specific phyto-nutrients which have been used and documented by the Chinese for hundreds if not thousands of years.  Many of these plant compounds give excellent benefits for autoimmune problems.  (More on this later)

  8. Increase your intake of omega 3 fatty acids whilst decreasing intake of vegetable oil.  There is an alarming trend occurring which is causing a severe imbalance to our immune systems.  We consume far too much omega 6 oil from vegetable sources and too little saturated fat from grass fed animal sources, which contains a natural balance of omega 3.  Contrary to well publicised commercial propaganda  and much medical propaganda in the past, saturated fats and cholesterol are not the bad guys for our health that cereal and margarine manufacturers make them out to be.

  9. Be extremely wary of the toxic side effects of any drugs you are taking.  Drugs are a chemical and they are treated by the body as an invader.  This causes stress on the immune system and often the body is weakened severely because of the demands placed on the liver to manufacture the specific enzyme needed to deal with and excrete the toxin. Often the drug prescribed will cause more serious long-term side effects than the original condition it was prescribed for. I can talk from experience here as I have suffered with varying degrees of irregular heart beat most of my life and have experienced first hand the serious consequences of blindly following doctors advice when it comes to toxic chemical drugs. I elaborate more fully on the dangers of chemical imbalance and multiple chemical sensitivities below

  10. Get in touch with your spirituality.  We all have the ability to reach an inner peace.  This is hard to do if many of the points above aren't addressed and corrected.  However inner peace and strength, is all part of being healthy and well.  The energy you give out will be returned to you!  This is a universal law and everyone must live within it.

So how is that for starters? Make any sense to you at this stage?  Perhaps not!  Well keep reading we have a lot of material to cover if you want to rid your body of any troublesome autoimmune dysfunction or metabolic disease.

Lets cover the above points in more detail now.


Our diets are a major reason we become ill.  Not because we eat food that is dangerous for us in respect of pathogens such as e-coli or salmonella but because our foods are laced with "safe" chemicals and are nutrient deficient.  The next time you buy a pizza or some manufactured food at your local supermarket have a look at the e-numbers in it.  You know, each one of those numbers represents a chemical!  Chemicals which are foreign to our body. Buy food which is completely free of all e-numbers.

An e-number is a chemical your body must deal with via enzymes produced by the liver so it can detoxify your body and repair any damage caused.  This places enormous stress on the immune system every time it occurs.

Artificial flavours

Of great concern to natural health practitioners and aware people is the practice of food manufacturers simply labelling a chemical additive as "flavouring".  You may not be aware of this but there are literally hundreds of synthetic chemicals used by the food manufacturing industry masquerading as "flavours".  The labelling laws as they stand in the UK do not require the manufacturer to list the artificial flavour as an e-number.  Consequently countless millions of us are ingesting yet another chemical, foreign to our body's metabolism. It is not so much the individual effects of a particular chemical which causes concern, but the synergising (combined) effect of two or perhaps several chemicals interacting within your body.  No studies have ever been done on the synergising effects of so-called "safe chemicals" as the cost of doing this and the time it would take is prohibitive.  What chemical company would fund such research anyway?  After all, they are in it for profit not to protect the consumer!

 

Tip... Reject food if it lists "flavour" on the label.  You are only safe if the word "flavour" is preceded by "natural".  No self respecting food manufacturer would risk saying "natural flavour" if it wasn't so. The fines can be heavy!  The ingredient labels are required by law and is the only concession made by the manufacturers to the uninformed consumer.  The big food processors and manufacturers would never have even done this if the government had not have forced them!  Big business does not care about your health!

Refined carbohydrates

Eliminate all the refined carbohydrates from your diet.  This means no sugar and no white flour.  Better still no wheat, refined or otherwise.  Read what I have to say about wheat and intolerances below and you will appreciate more fully why wheat is not good in your diet. It is vital to remove not only the refined carbohydrates but also the chemical sweeteners from your diet too.  Aspartame is a problem chemical and has a long list of known side effects. Vegetable oils

Another villain you need to get out of your diet is hydrogenated vegetable oils.  Vegetable oils with the exception of virgin olive oil and a couple of other cold pressed oils are bad for you.  During the extraction process of many oils, they undergo a heat and/or chemical process to remove the oil from the seed and to clarify and deodorise it. This process completely denatures the oil and changes the molecular structure.  The body must then treat it like a chemical and eliminate it via the liver by manufacturing specific enzymes.  If your body's metabolism is compromised, then metabolic disease will set in.  An early indication you are not coping with vegetable oils is abdominal swelling and/or water retention some time after you have consumed the denatured oil.  Mass produced commercial vegetable oils, especially canola oil made from rape seed, are the main reason we have clogged arteries because of the free radical activity caused by them. 

 

Mass produced heat and chemical extracted oils are dangerous to your health and should form no part of your diet whatsoever!

Also vegetable oils will not stand heating to any degree and become potent carcinogens once they start to smoke.  Saturated fats stand approximately 30 degrees C higher temperatures before they become carcinogenic  Beware of barbeques and cooking in very hot woks.  Beware of fish and chips cooked in commercial vegetable oils!  Once that vegetable oil smokes or becomes rancid or any fat smokes for that matter, you have problems big time.  More heart disease is caused by an imbalance in our systems due to vegetable oils and fats that have their molecular structure changed in the extraction processes and/or by over heating, than any other single reason.

Organic food

Concentrate on eating natural foods grown with as few chemicals as possible.  Buy organic from local sources for complete peace of mind.  Eat plenty of vegetables and eat modest amounts of animal protein. Eggs (free range preferably or organic) are fine and do not cause increased cholesterol levels and heart disease, like some would have us believe about eating animal products. Always use butter in preference to that chemical sludge they call margarine.  It is not only far better for you it actually tastes like real food.  For thousands of years we (the human race) have buttered our daily bread with butter.  You can't butter bread with margarine!

Fruit

Although fruit in modest amounts is good for you, most fruit is grown far away from where you live and may have been stored for long periods before you buy it. Unless it is local organic produce it may well have been sprayed with some sort of toxic chemical, probably several times, as it was growing and probably again whilst it was in storage. (Note... you can't necessarily trust "organic" produce from overseas!  Many dishonest practises  have been uncovered as far as imported organic produce is concerned!)   Fruit which used to be a natural and healthy treat is no longer so.  Caution must be used in regard to commercially produced fruit because of toxic chemical residues.  In particular the organophosphate group of chemicals.  Organophosphate chemicals were developed originally as nerve toxins by the Nazi scientists during the World War to use as mass destruction weapons.  Now it is used in massive quantities, literally thousands of tons of it, sprayed onto our fruit and vegetable crops.  

 

Large quantities of fruit is not the 'norm' in our diets anyway and consideration should be given to the sugar content of fruit. Fructose is still a sugar and quickly absorbed into the blood stream the same as sugar.  The potential to raise blood sugars and cause hypoglycaemic reactions as insulin removes the sugar from the blood is quite marked and becomes more of a problem as we age.  Eventually type 2 diabetes will set in if you load your system all the time with sugars and refined carbohydrates, no matter what the source.

Eliminate refined carbohydrates

Refined carbohydrates, sugar and white flour, ("White Death") are the cause of diabetes and many other problems to do with our health.  They are also the main reason the bulk of people struggle constantly with a weight problem. If you use butter, a balanced saturated fat, it will tend to slow up the absorption of sugars into our bloodstream thereby acting as a natural buffer to wild swings in blood sugar levels.  So don't feel guilty about buying and using butter.  It not only tastes better than that insipid chemical sludge called margarine, but it is far safer and is an essential part of our diet.  Butter is GOOD for you!  Saturated fats with a naturally occurring balance of omega 3 such as is found in grass fed beef and lamb, protect us from most disease and does not cause heart disease!  Ample scientific proof of this now exists and has done so for over 15 years!!!!!

Vital vegetables

Eat plenty of vegetables, although take it easy on root vegetables because of the carbohydrate content, eat modest amounts of animal protein, beef, lamb, chicken, pork, fish, eggs and modest amounts of fruit when in season and use butter instead of margarine and you have the foundation of a diet our ancestors survived on for hundreds of thousands of years, completely free of heart disease and cancer!  Try to avoid grains in your diet as much as possible as they all rate highly on the glycaemic index.  That is they are absorbed very quickly into the blood stream as sugar, causing unpleasant blood sugar fluctuations and possible hypoglycaemic reactions.  Grains also have a nasty habit of causing food intolerances and consequently an imbalance in your metabolism.

Manufactured foods contain chemicals

Avoid like the plague all manufactured meats... in fact avoid all manufactured food.  This includes sausages, bacon, ham, salami... all preserved and manufactured meat products should be totally taboo until you see a marked improvement in your health.  However don't return to your old eating habits if you want to remain well!   Avoid dried fruits because of the highly reactive sulphur dioxide found in the products.  If you can find organic dried fruit that is fine, but bear in mind dried fruit is high in sugar and may cause blood sugar problems and resulting tiredness.

 

Tip... you can always tell fruit that is dried without sulphur dioxide because it is a brown colour rather than a bright artificial looking colour!  Sulphur dioxide is a very reactive chemical and should be kept out of your diet completely.


 

 

Let's have a look in your bathroom.  You may be amazed about this, but dangerous poisons and toxins lurk in your personal toiletries you are probably not even aware of.  In fact I would go as far as saying you have no idea of the potential problems these chemicals can cause.  If you are a psoriasis, eczema or arthritis sufferer or you have chronic fatigue problems, then grab that bottle of shampoo you used yesterday and have a look at the label.

Does it contain Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS)? 

A known carcinogen and skin irritant! 

This chemical is a powerful commercial degreaser and is used in industry for cleaning workshop floors and degreasing machinery.  It is also the main foaming agent and degreaser in almost all shampoos!  You will find it in your toothpaste, your bubble bath, shower gel, shaving lotion and a host of other products including being used as a glazing agent on pharmaceutical drugs! 

 

You will even find it in shampoos prescribed by doctors to ease psoriasis and eczema of the scalp. 

THE VERY PROBLEM A SUFFERER IS TRYING TO ELIMINATE IS ACTUALLY EXACERBATED BY THE SHAMPOO DESIGNED TO GIVE RELIEF!!!!

 How stupid is that???

If this is a safe chemical why do they place skull and cross bone warnings on the drums of SLS chemicals, warning users of the dangers and stressing the need to wear protective clothing, goggles and rubber gloves when handling and to seek immediate medical help if swallowed or spilt on the skin? 

It sure doesn't make sense to put it on your head or anywhere else on your body or in your mouth if the warning labels on the drums of commercial chemicals are correct.  We have no reason to suspect that the warning labels are anything but correct!  It has the ability to cause ongoing sensitivities, chronic health problems and has been proven to cause cancer in test animals.

ELIMINATE IT NOW FROM YOUR BATHROOM!!!!

Propylene Glycol (PG)

Propylene Glycol is a wetting agent and is used in industry as the main component of brake fluid and antifreeze. Also used extensively in paint and varnishes.  It is also found in your shampoo, toothpaste, hair conditioner beauty creams and lotions, cleansers, makeup and is very common in children's personal care items and many other products you use on a daily basis.  Again this is a dangerous chemical.  Food manufacturers even used it for years in ice cream and other foods they did not want to set too hard when frozen. At least the government stepped in and forced its removal from our food supplies because of the known toxic effects.  But what about our toothpaste and other lotions and potions we put on ourselves and on the skin of our loved ones?

 

Chemicals have the same effect on us no matter how they are absorbed. The membranes of the mouth are known to absorb toxins very quickly, as is the skin.  Would you trust a three year old not to swallow toothpaste?  Would you knowingly give your child a poison to put in their mouth?  Think about it!  Why do the manufacturers of these chemicals go to extraordinary lengths to warn users of the commercial chemical to avoid contact with the skin if they are not dangerous? 

 

Perhaps long term exposure to small so called "safe quantities" of these powerful chemicals just may have a detrimental and cumulative effect on the body over time.  You want to believe it.  The author of this article has suffered with chemical sensitivities all his life due to handling chemicals as a young man and being exposed to higher than "normal" levels over a five year period.  Exactly the same effect will happen to you if you continue to absorb so called "safe" chemicals over many years from the toiletries you use.

 

Propylene glycol has severe adverse health effects and has been found to cause kidney damage and liver abnormalities.

It also damages cell membranes causing rashes, dry skin, contact dermatitis and surface damage to the skin. It has been noted that PG is toxic to human cell cultures in the laboratory.

The American Academy of Dermatologists published a clinical review in January 1991 that showed propylene glycol caused a significant number of reactions and was a primary irritant to the skin even in low levels of concentration of around 5%. Propylene glycol routinely occurs in the top 3 listing of ingredients in any given product, indicating that it is present in high concentration.

 

Polyethylene Glycol  (PEG)

A related agent to PG.  Used in moisturisers and face creams... it is also the main ingredient in oven cleaners!

 

Sodium Hydroxide

Found in toothpaste, shampoos and soaps.  A powerful caustic chemical associated with sodium chloride, a powerful oxidant.  Causes severe skin irritation and can permanently damage the eyes.  Used as a pipeline cleaner in industry.  Users are warned to wear full protective clothing when handling the concentrate!  It is in your toothpaste for goodness sake!!!  It causes mouth ulcers and sensitises people to other chemicals.  It is vital to prevent this dangerous substance from making contact with your skin or ingesting it.  If you have any skin problems or auto-immune dysfunction then it becomes vital to keep it out of your system.

 

Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA)

An organic acid produced by anaerobic respiration. Skin care products containing AHA exfoliate and not only destroy skin cells, but the skin's protective barrier as well.  Long-term skin damage may result from its use.

 

Aluminium

A metallic element used extensively in the manufacture of aircraft components, prosthetic devices and as an ingredient in antiperspirants, antacids and antiseptics. It is even used as a flocking agent in water supplies!  Implicated with breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease.  Up until recently it was even present in free flowing salt at 1% concentration!  Check you deodorant and salt now.  If aluminium is present throw it out!  It's just not worth the risk. Aluminium cookware used to be common place once. Perhaps this has contributed greatly to the 1 in 2 incidence of Alzheimer's disease in the over 70 age group.  Some forward thinking European countries have actually banned cookware made from aluminium.

 

Sodium Fluoride

Found in toothpastes and water supplies.  A known toxin and carcinogen.  Fluorides used in drinking water supplies are a toxic, non-biodegradable, environmental pollutant officially classified as a contaminant by the US Environmental Protection Agency.  Shocking though it may seem, the reality is, this chemical is simply hazardous industrial waste. A by-product of chemical fertiliser manufacturing, gleaned from this industry's pollution scrubbers... which is largely disposed of in our water supplies.  Far from protecting teeth it is shown to cause dental fluorosis in susceptible individuals and bone demineralisation in adults as they age.  In other words it causes osteoporosis!  It is another toxic chemical that adds to the load the body must deal with and should not be part of your daily regime.  I quote " Fluoride plays a significant role in contributing to the deaths of 10,000 people per year from cancer alone... 40 million cases of arthritis... allergic reactions in 2 million people and dental deformity in 8 million children!"  Dr. Dean Burke and Dr. John Yiamouyiannis, National Cancer Institute, USA, 1997.

Diethanolamine DEA,

Lauramide DEA

A colourless liquid or crystalline alcohol that is used as a solvent, emulsifier and detergent or wetting agent.  DEA works as an emollient in skin softening lotions or as a humectant in other personal care products. When found in products containing nitrates, it reacts chemically with the nitrates to form carcinogenic nitrosamines. Although earlier studies seem to show that DEA itself was not a carcinogen, more recent studies show that DEA has the capacity unequivocally, to cause cancer even in formulations that exclude nitrates. DEA may also irritate the skin and mucous membranes. Also watch out for the other ethanolamines, triethanolamine TEA and monoethamolamine MEA. These dangerous chemicals are also found in sunscreens and many other cosmetic products.  They can cause nitrates to form when combined with specific chemicals.  "Some of the most dangerous chemicals we put on our bodies in the name of beauty belong to a family of hormone disrupting chemicals...these chemicals readily react with any nitrites present to form carcinogenic nitrosamines... prolonged exposure can alter liver and kidney function and lead to CANCER..."  WDDTY Vol10 No7 10/99  DANGEROUS!!!

 

Bentonite

A porous clay that expands to many times its dry volume as it absorbs water. Bentonite is commonly found in many cosmetic foundations and may clog pores and suffocate the skin.  Bentonite is used by fire fighters to suffocate forest fires by eliminating the oxygen available.

 

Butane

Aerosol propellant. Flammable and in high doses may be narcotic or cause asphyxiation.

 

Collagen

An insoluble fibrous protein that is too large to penetrate the skin.  The collagen found in most skin care products is derived from animal carcasses and ground up chicken feet. This ingredient forms a layer of film that tends to suffocate the skin.

 

Dioxin

A carcinogenic by-product of many manufacturing processes, especially the weed-killers 245-T and 24-D and the manufacturing of pulp for paper production.  It is also found as a by-product in the manufacture of foaming cleansers such as shampoos, toothpastes and cleansers. Dioxin contaminated containers which include some plastic manufacturing processes for plastic bottles sometimes transfer dioxins into the product itself.  It has been shown that dioxin is up to 500,000 times more carcinogenic than DDT.  Dioxin is one of the most potent and powerful poisons known to man!

 

Formaldehyde

A toxic colourless gas that is a strong irritant and a known carcinogen.  When combined with water, formaldehyde is commonly used as a disinfectant, fixative and a preservative. It is a common preservative in childhood vaccines!  Formaldehyde is found in many cosmetic products and conventional nail beauty treatments. It is used on farms as a powerful scalding treatment for foot rot in cloven hoofed animals.

 

Kaolin

Commonly used in foundations, face powders and dusting powders.  Kaolin is a fine white clay often associated with bauxite the aluminium ore, and is used in making fine porcelain. Like bentonite, kaolin smothers the skin and weakens the structure.

 

Lanolin

A fatty substance extracted from wool. Frequently found in cosmetics and lotions. Lanolin is a common sensitizer that can cause allergic reactions with some people.  This is mainly due to the toxic effects of chemical residues contained in the lanolin from the sheep being sprayed with powerful insecticides on the farm.  Organophosphates are a very common contaminant in sheep wool because of the practice of sheep dipping for lice and blow fly. Avoid any product containing lanolin! Tests have shown up to 16 chemical contaminants contained in lanolin.

 

Mineral oil

A derivative of crude oil that is used industrially as a cutting fluid and lubricating oil. Mineral oil forms an oily film over skin to lock in moisture, toxins and waste, but hinders normal skin respiration by keeping oxygen out. Commonly found in baby lotions.

 

Petrolatum

A petroleum based oil derived from the refining process of crude oil.  It is used industrially as a grease and lubricant. It has the same potentially harmful properties as mineral oil.

 

Talc

A soft grey green mineral used in some personal hygiene and cosmetic products. Inhaling talc dust is dangerous as it belongs to the same family as asbestos and is a recognised carcinogen. Talc is widely accepted by medical experts as being one of the primary causes of ovarian cancer if used in the genital area.  Condoms and latex gloves were commonly "dry lubricated" with talc.

The majority of us suffer from what has become known as food intolerance and/or food allergies.  This is an insidious condition whereby the body gradually builds up an intolerance to a specific protein occurring in a food which is often consumed on a regular daily basis.  Wheat is the main culprit along with sugar and dairy products.  Surprisingly few people become intolerant to butter.  It is the cow milk protein that causes the problem rather than fat or cream.

Doctors fail to recognise food intolerance

I could write a complete book about food intolerance and allergies because it is a very comprehensive subject in its own right.  The majority of doctors do not recognise food intolerance symptoms and often prescribe palliative drugs for people who may only need to eliminate wheat from their diet.  Food intolerance is usually a key factor in ME (Chronic Fatigue). 

 

Until such time as a skilled naturopath is consulted, the patient will live in a half world of chronic tiredness and other ongoing chronic health problems.  There is enough anecdotal evidence to know that food intolerance is definitely linked with skin problems like psoriasis and eczema.  Arthritis and aching joints are another common symptom of food intolerance especially to wheat.  Many people will recover from chronic health problems simply by sorting out the allergies and intolerances they have to food and eliminating the problem foods. 

Set up from shortly after birth.

Most food intolerance can be traced back to the early formative years in childhood.  Cows milk protein and wheat protein play a significant role in causing the problem to occur by passing through the immature gut of infants under 12 months of age. The baby's body then reacts by recognising the protein as an invader and sets up an immune response reaction to it. This will result in a distressing time for the baby.  Many parents and doctors are at a total loss as to why the baby has so many sleepless nights and are susceptible to every virus and bug going.   In chronic cases the baby will develop a myriad of minor and sometimes a quite serious problems.  As the child matures  the problem of intolerance often disappears and the child will go on to experience relatively "normal" teenage years.  However these years are often punctuated with periods of more or less accepted minor problems for the child such as eczema, asthma, ADHD and other inexplicable problems and later in the teenage years severe acne. Unfortunately, even if the symptoms mentioned above do subside, the underlying problems will never go away until the offending food is completely removed from the diet. 

 

The downside of this is that the food intolerance problem will resurface again as they age. Often with a vengeance after a period of stress or perhaps illness.  The intolerance may be have been with there all the time causing low-level symptoms without the person even realising it.  When food intolerance symptoms do develop in adulthood the vast majority of cases are not recognised and the symptoms are treated with palliative drugs thereby compounding the problem of an already struggling immune system.  Symptoms include feelings of breathlessness and anxiety type attacks, mild heart palpitations and irregular heart beat,  abdominal swelling and fluid retention, headaches, ME type symptoms of continual tiredness and lethargy to name a few of the multitude of symptoms which can occur. Take particular note of when you feel tired.  If it is after eating then you have a problem!

 

Human babies are not designed to be reared on milk from cows or fed cereal products in their early months.  Breast milk is by far the best of course.  Next best is goats milk which has a protein somewhat similar to human milk and does not cause the child to become intolerant. Nor are babies meant to have wheat in their diet before the age of 12 months.  Importantly nor are they meant to have soy products of any sort in their diet either.  Soy can be very detrimental to health in the long term.

 

Natures way

We seem to have lost touch with what nature intended for us.  Our ancestors had a ready made method of giving their baby a balanced introduction to solids.  It was merely a matter of chewing a mouthful of vegetables and/or meat and then spooning it into the infants mouth.  This did two things.  It made the food soft enough for the baby to swallow and the saliva from the parents chewing action had already started the digestive process before the infant swallowed the food.  Compare this with spoon feeding a baby a meal from a can.  A meal already processed and soft, full of wheat and other proteins foreign to the immature gut of the infant, the infant swallows this straight down without any benefit of saliva to help the digestion of these foreign proteins.  No wonder we have so many ongoing problems with food intolerance re-occurring in adulthood!

 

Unfortunately by feeding the child foreign proteins before the gut is mature enough to stop the protein entering the blood stream via the gut wall, we are unwittingly setting up a lifetime of suffering for that person as they become older.  Often the problem will not manifest until 20 years later.  Experts believe that IBS Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a classic case of food intolerance caused initially in the formative months of the child's life, from the introduction of unsuitable proteins in the food. 

 

So without being too long winded about food intolerance I suggest to everyone they eliminate wheat and sugar as a matter of course and also eliminate dairy products including cheese.  As mentioned above butter appears to cause fewer problems than milk products.  Experts who have worked closely with intolerant individuals speculate this is because the milk protein is not present to any great degree in butter and the naturally occurring levels of omega3 fatty acids help to strengthen and build up the immune system, thus actually protecting the person from other disease.

 

Complex subject

This is an extremely complex subject and way beyond my scope to address properly in this E-book.  Bear in mind if you have unexplained feelings of uneasiness and anxiety, mild heart palpitations and arrhythmia, breathlessness and tiredness... then food intolerance could be playing a major factor in how you feel.  Try eliminating completely the foods mentioned above, for at least 4 weeks, then re-introduce one food at a time per day.  For instance after 4 weeks of not touching any dairy products try eating a slice of cheese on an empty stomach and note exactly how you feel 20 minutes to half an hour later.  You may be very surprised at the wave of lethargy and tiredness that will sweep over you. In extreme cases you may experience heart irregularities and feelings of breathlessness and anxiety. There is no mistaking a food intolerance when the symptoms are so marked. Other more subtle symptoms are often harder to track down the causes. 

 

Sort out your food intolerances and feel so much more alive!


 

 

You have probably heard the expression "you are what you eat".  This is true but I would hasten to add that there is more to it than simply being what you eat.  Sure if you eat a diet high in sugars and refined carbohydrates you will definitely be the result of what you eat.  You will become another adult onset diabetes case.  So in a case like this, the foregoing statement is very true.  However from the point of view of proper nutrition, you are not only "what you eat" but also what your body will assimilate and absorb into your system.  So more correctly "we are what we eat and assimilate".

Controversy

Now this raises quite a controversial subject because doctors have been saying for ages we do not need to supplement our diets with minerals and vitamins.  We "get all the minerals and vitamins from the foods we eat provided we eat a balanced diet".  Let me ask you what you think a balanced diet is.  If you were to base your diet on conventional nutritional thinking then you would be in a fairly sorry state after many years of excess carbohydrates in the form of grains and sugars.  We have already touched on what causes diabetes above.  Lets have a closer look at what the main contributing factors are for adult onset diabetes.  

 

Diets loaded with carbohydrates are the chief culprits in all adult onset diabetes today.

Food pyramid

The food pyramid which we have come to believe is how we are meant to eat is basically flawed, in so far as the recommendation of making the bulk of your diet up with foods from grains and cereals.  Personally I believe cereal manufacturers have had a large hand in designing the food pyramid so more of their sugar laced cereals will be sold!  Many people who are skilled in Natural Health and nutrition refer to white sugar and white flour as the "white death".  Justifiably so I may add!  Diabetes is on a dramatic increase and it is such a serious disease, yet so easily prevented.  I even see reports of children now coming down with adult onset type2 diabetes! 

Basic mistake

It is astounding that children are getting adult onset diabetes!  It is also astounding that such a basic mistake could have been made by such supposedly learned people, the nutritional "experts", in their recommendation to eat more carbohydrates and less protein.  A mistake compounded by their insistence that fruit is good for you and you should also eat lots of fruit.  Well yes, of course fruit is good for you, but if you are already labouring under a high carbohydrate intake anyway, sweet fruit will only compound any hyperglycaemic tendencies (high blood sugar) or hypoglycaemic (low blood sugar) tendencies you may have.   I have stated before, despite what you are told by "experts" too much sugar in the form of fructose is not good for your overall health. Fruit like a sweet banana or sweet apple have the same ability to dramatically alter blood sugar levels very quickly, the same as a spoonful of pure sugar.  Despite the fact you may get good levels of phyto-nutrients from fruit, if it is grown on adequately mineralised soil, eating too much fruit along with too many other refined carbohydrates, such as white flour and sugar, will lead to metabolic disease as you age.

Sugars are the culprits

Sugars, that is all refined carbohydrates, sucrose, fructose, dextrose etc, because they all convert quickly into blood sugar and rate high on the glycaemic index, have the nasty habit of creating an imbalance in your system due to the over production of insulin.  Insulin is quickly released into the blood stream to control blood sugars.  Blood sugars are converted into glycogen and stored for immediate energy requirements in the liver.  If the energy is not required for the body, then the glycogen converts to body fat for energy at a later date.  This is why insulin is often referred to as the fat hormone.  Well yes it is the fat hormone but insulin is not the culprit.  The culprits are the excess carbohydrates you have been consuming believing they are good for you.   Eventually the overworked pancreas continues to increase it's rate of insulin production but the body is becoming resistant to insulin and eventually the whole system breaks down and exhausts itself.  This is when adult onset diabetes starts.

This is a gross over-simplification of the process that goes on in your body and I only run through it to emphasise the next points.  Because sugars, and this includes fructose, dextrose, sucrose, lactose and any other ending in "tose" cause a serious imbalance in your body to occur.  Consequently, your body then tends to reject essential vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.

Think again

So if you think you are getting all your nutrients you need from your daily diet, then think again.  I heard a doctor say once that all vitamins and minerals do is create "expensive urine that you wee down the toilet!"  Well I would rather have expensive urine thanks doctor and live longer in full health than become another statistic before my time is due, like so many doctors do.  Goodness me, if an average doctor can't keep himself alive for the length of time the average person lives, then what hope have we got if we follow their advice?

Depleted soils

It has been recognised now for over 50 years our soils are becoming mineral deficient.  The only nutrients needed to grow healthy looking plants for the market are nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium.  None of the other essential trace elements are needed by a plant for it to look healthy and enticing to eat.  This applies right across the board as far as growing fruit and vegetables and grains are concerned.  Many of the farms have been regularly cropped now for hundreds of years.  Now back in the "old days", less than 40 years ago, this was not such a problem because farmers employed proper husbandry techniques to the land.  They used rotational cropping methods and would allow the land to lie fallow before sowing it back into grass or another crop for human consumption.  They also used to make certain that any muck produced on the farm was returned to the soil.  The soil was in balance as nature intended!

Cross check

There was always a cross check anyway on the land due to the fact that livestock were an integral part of land management then.  This meant that if any mineral deficiencies were in the soil the stock would be "poor doers" and the soil would need to be mineralised with all the elements that were lacking.  After all if the stock did not do well, then they would not be worth any money to the farmer. So our grandparents really did have it sussed when it came to farming by ensuring all facets of good land husbandry were always followed.   The stock always provided the cross check needed to ensure that the soil was adequately mineralised.

Modern farming methods

Today with modern farming methods it is a totally different scene.  Now I am not knocking farmers by any manner or means.  Due to "progress" and pressure on farmers by supermarkets and vested interests to produce ever more from their land, the old style farming simply doesn't fit in with the modern agricultural paradigm.  Fields are ploughed up year after year and crop after crop of the same market dictated produce is grown on soils that are becoming seriously depleted of the minerals.   Minerals which were once abundant in most soils.

Cobalt

For instance did you know that lacking cobalt in your diet would cause you to become very ill and to eventually die.  It may take many years of failing health before you were to die, but in the meantime you probably would have been prescribed virtually every drug in the book as doctors searched for a "magic bullet" for your disease.   A complete lack of this very minor trace element would see you become more and more chronically ill over a long period of time and to eventually pass away a shadow of your former self.  Sounds a lot like millions of people in our western civilisation already doesn't it?  Gradually getting struck down with all sorts of metabolic disease and the doctors treating the symptoms with expensive allopathic drugs. 

Now what about if you were not quite getting adequate levels of the 22 known essential trace elements in your diet.  Not insufficient enough to kill you but just enough to allow you to soldier on always wondering why you feel so washed out and why you have aching joints and arthritis and heart disease and cancer or whatever the metabolic or degenerative disease is that you may be suffering from.  Because as sure as the sun comes up tomorrow, if you body is not properly mineralised with all the trace elements and full of vitamins and phyto-nutrients on a daily basis, then you will be struck down with some form of metabolic disease as you age. 

Ongoing deficiency

Many scientists and people who have studied this malady, are convinced, we as a population are suffering from a low-level and ongoing mineral deficiency.  Without sufficient minerals in our diets, vitamins and plant nutrients are useless and will not be absorbed.  My own personal observations of the UK population bears out what I have written here.  This country has one of the highest rates of metabolic and degenerative disease in the world.  It is also one of the countries that has been farmed the longest.  Coincidence?  Perhaps not!

Prevention is a thousand times better than cure!  Once again I reiterate, I would rather have expensive urine, safe in the knowledge I am protecting myself from completely avoidable disease such as cancer, heart disease, psoriasis, MS and a whole host of metabolic conditions the doctors have no answer for.

Bio-available... what does it mean?

Readily absorbed minerals

It is all very well to say we need to supplement with minerals and vitamins.  However if the form that the minerals come in is not available to the body, then 90% or more will probably be excreted and not utilised by the body.  A good example of this phenomenon is easily demonstrated in the USA.  The American people have the highest rate of dairy produce intake of any country in the world, yet they also have the highest rate of osteoporosis of any country in the world.  What does this say about the level of uptake of calcium which is very high in milk?  It says that even though the average American person consumes far more than the recommended levels of calcium to prevent bone demineralisation occurring, the calcium is not taken up by the body.  It is not in a bio available form!  There are several reasons for this to occur in the consumption of cows milk... not the least being that milk, unless it is whole full cream milk, non-pasteurised and non-homogenised, is in a form the body finds hard to assimilate and excretes most of it!  Man once again has denatured, what was once, quite a good wholesome food for humans.

Live food is what we are meant to eat!  It is what our predecessors evolved on.  Man as a hunter gatherer, plucked fruit and berries as he went about his daily activities of hunting prey and game for his family.  Meat was reasonably plentiful and man with his superior intelligence had little difficulty in capturing most prey including fish.

Before Europeans came on the scene tribal people like the Aborigines in Australia lived to good ripe old ages in full health with  no known disease whatsoever.  They had the typical hunter gatherer type diet right up until relatively recent times.  On any given day they would be digging up wild yams and tubers, plucking edible berries and fruits from the trees and shrubs (the women mainly did this), and hunting for game such as kangaroo and wallaby or any other animal that they came across including snake and goanna.  For a change they would have a feast of witchetty grubs, the large white grub found in Australian native trees.  Their diet was perfect for vital good health and long life. 

Eaten raw

The food they ate was live food. Often gathered or caught and eaten raw on the spot.  Cooking utensils did not exist and the method used for cooking meat was to throw the carcass, whatever it was, onto the campfire embers and burn the hair or skin off and partially cook the meat.  Meat in the main was consumed 80% raw.  (No burnt vegetable oils loading their systems up with free radicals for them!)  Of course like all hunter gatherers, preference was always given to killing the fat animals because the fat made the meat cook better and made it tastier.  Nature has a way of protecting us from disease and eating animal fat from grass fed and browsing animals is one of them!  A delicacy for the Aboriginal people was the goanna, the large native lizard which grows to over 1.2 m in length and is found throughout Australia.  The goanna is full of fat and oil (the author can vouch for this, having eaten goanna on several occasions) and was a prized delicacy (as was the crocodile) of the Aboriginals.

Fish also formed a natural part of their diet when they were plentiful in the wet.  Yellow belly carp and native Murray River Cod, along with a number of other species were in very plentiful supply in all inland rivers.  I have actually inspected the ancient fish traps built in some of the western rivers of NSW where the tribe caught all the fish they needed.  Both the cod and the yellow belly carp are very fatty fish and excellent to eat.  A natural source of omega 3 in their diet! 

Bountiful harvest

Coastal Aboriginals of course had access to the bountiful harvest from the sea which included fish, turtle, shellfish and in particular the dugong, the lumbering and slow sea grass grazing mammal, which used to be found in large numbers in northern Australia.  So all in all, the average Australian Aboriginal ate a diet of live food which included eggs, meat, fish, limited quantities of fruit and berries in season, protein from grubs and grasshoppers, wild yams and other tubers and some edible plants as they found them.  They only ever killed or gathered enough to eat then and there because of the heat, often over 45 degrees C, and the next day they looked for more live food.

Denatured Foods

Then entered Europeans with their denatured foods, white flour, sugar, alcohol and nitrates to "cure" meat.  The "savages" had to be civilised and Christianised, so this meant rounding them up and making them live on Aboriginal reserves marked out for them by the white men.  No longer were they the hunter gatherers of old, they now became consumers of fast food based on sugars and refined wheat flour.  The vegetable oils and breakfast cereals came later as did the alcohol to wash it all down with. 

It is criminal what has happened to this proud race of people in the name of modernising them into our woeful civilisation as far as their eating habits are concerned.

From a society of people where disease was virtually unknown, they have been struck down by metabolic disease in huge numbers.  Diabetes is the biggest killer now. The average indigenous Australian develops type2 adult onset diabetes in their thirties!  Average life expectancy has plummeted to the lowest of any people in the world and most succumb to the ravages of the "White Death" (sugar and refined carbohydrates) well before they reach the age of sixty!

So think seriously about what I am saying here on the benefits of eating live wholesome food.  Of course I don't expect you to go out and kill the nearest goanna or dugong for your supper!  But at least give serious consideration to buying locally produced food from organic sources or growing your own!.  Eliminate the dead denatured foods from your diet, along with the chemicals that go with them and you will come alive!


 

Flight or Fight

In our fast paced and modern society, little thought is given to the effect stress has on our metabolism.  When we are young we tend to handle stress far better than when we get into our thirties and beyond.  Stress has a nasty habit of throwing our hormones out of balance and creating a continual fight or flight readiness within our bodies.  Now this may have been fine for our ancestors when they were battling a sabre tooth tiger.  They soon took flight and worked the adrenalin out of their system.  Unfortunately very few of us can do that now and the stress levels continue to build day after relentless day.

Have you ever felt like punching someone on the nose because they have acted in some incredibly arrogant or selfish way towards you?  Well if you haven't then you are in a lovely stress free environment that would be the envy of millions!  The trouble is, if you do allow your hormones to run rampant, then you will probably be had up for assault and then you will have even more stress to deal with. 

Trigger factor

Stress can be a trigger factor for many debilitating conditions if the body is already lacking in the vital nutrients it needs to sustain a healthy immune system.  Chronic fatigue is the first condition that springs to mind which is often triggered by a period of very stressful conditions which may have gone on for some time.  It could be a marriage break up, or a death of a loved one in the family, or simply that you are not coping at work with stressful targets to meet.  Whatever causes the stress, the results can be catastrophic if the problem is not addressed in time. 

Opportunist viruses

Once the immune system starts to break down, then disease will set in!   Now I am not necessarily talking about pathogens here like bacteria and viruses, although they are opportunists and if they find the right fertile conditions, then you will catch them too. It is common knowledge that we are all much more prone to catching a flu virus when our immune system is depleted from stress  If you suffer from herpes simplex1 or 2 (cold sores) then they will also break out in times of stress and lowered immune resistance.  Why do you think the herpes virus is called a "cold sore"?  Herpes like any virus is an opportunist and only manifests itself when the body is not coping with another virus such as a flu virus.  The body is under stress and the "cold sore" breaks out.   Another example of an opportunist virus is the wart virus. If you have lowered immunity due to low mineral and nutrient uptake and you are stressed, warts will often appear. Then just as mysteriously they will disappear as your stress levels decrease.

Metabolic Disease

Other autoimmune problems will also manifest during times of extended stress.  If your diet is contaminated with refined carbohydrates and food additives, your body is absorbing toxins from personal care items and toiletries, plus you are lacking in essential trace elements and minerals, then you may find a stressful period will be the trigger factor for much more serious disease to set in. Most Natural Health experts are convinced that all metabolic disease stems from inadequate nutrition and/or inadequate uptake of essential minerals and vitamins. Autoimmune problems such as arthritis and psoriasis often start to manifest for the first time during extended periods of stress.

Weigh up the consequences

While you are young and your body's immune system is coping OK stressful periods are easily coped with, just like water off a ducks back. However as time marches on, especially once we get into our 40s and beyond, stress has a nasty habit of not letting go. You are in danger of serious metabolic disorders overwhelming your immune system if you continue to remain in a stressful environment. Weigh up what is important in life! 

Make health a priority in your life

Perhaps YOUR GOOD HEALTH should be a priority. Without good health it is hard to remain positive and cope with anything else, let alone loads of stress. So if your job is killing you and you are always stressed out from trying to meet ever increasing targets with your work, then get out before it is too late! Give serious consideration to a new direction in life. Disease protection

It is well recognised by all leading nutritional scientists and Natural Health experts that plant nutrients play an important, if not vital role, in maintaining vibrant good health and extending our life span. We are genetically programmed to live to well over 100 years young and enjoy all our faculties and live a disease free life.  There are a number of races of people in the world today who do habitually live to over 100. Many of them achieve great ages of 120 or more. Men are still fathering children into their 90s and even into their 100s!  Not that I would want children at that age I guess, but this is just an indication of how vital some people in these isolated pockets of the world are, even well into, for what us Westerners would be, decrepit old age!

 

Common factors

Now when comparing civilisations which habitually live well past 100 years like the Hunzas in North Eastern Pakistan, the Georgians from Russia, the Karakorum of the Himalayan foothills, the Abkasians and Ajerbaijanis from southern Russia, they all have common factors in their diets and environment. For a start they all live in areas which are unpolluted and provide clean water and air. Water is generally from glacier melt water and heavily mineralised with all the essential trace elements in a form which is bio available and readily absorbed by the body. Importantly however, they consume loads of their own home grown vegetables and produce, grown in mineralised soils, watered with the very water that promotes longevity, the mineral rich glacier melt waters. (Interestingly the Maori in New Zealand and the Aborigine of Australia used to also live to great ages until white man brought his denatured white flour and sugar, "White Death", and food processing onto the scene.)

 

The gardens of these long-lived people are fertilised with natural animal manures (and human waste). No soil depleting chemical fertilisers used in their crop rotation system! What this adds up to is a marvellous phyto-nutrient dense diet all of them enjoy. The animals they raise for food consumption also eat the same phyto-nutrient dense foods and importantly the animals are not killed and processed into some fast food, resplendent with all the attendant chemicals and additives Western food manufacturers seem to think are necessary in our diets!

 

Saturated Fats

Although none of these people are strictly vegetarian, (some consume quite a bit of meat) it is obvious that the crops they grow contribute greatly to their overall good health and disease free status. Interestingly people living in Georgia consume a lot of animal fat from pork and continue to enjoy robust good health. (I cover more on this below)  Part of their staple diet comes from the pigs they raise. And as any connoisseur of pork would tell you, a lean pig is not worth eating! Traditionally for thousands of years it has always been the fat animal slaughtered in preference to the lean animal! This flies completely in the face of what so called Western nutritional "experts" say about saturated fats. It is about time they started to wake up to what the real culprits are as far as metabolic disease is concerned.

 

Lacking nutrients

So where do we get these phyto-nutrient dense foods then? Well the news is mostly bad for us living in the modern "civilised" world. "Progress" has put paid to most of the foods that once would have been phyto-nutrient dense. For instance vitamin B17. The cyanide compound or laetrile nutrient found in almonds and reported on very good authority to be the specific phyto-nutrient most lacking in our western diets which may prevent cancer. This specific phyto-nutrient is basically lacking completely from our diets! You know, the mere fact we don't eat apple cores along with the seeds deprives us of an excellent source of B17 from the apple seeds.  Next time you eat an apple, crunch up the seeds and note the strong almond like taste. That is the cyanide compound laetrile which gives the seed the distinct taste. Where else do you find it? The most prolific source of it is in apricot kernels. Hmmm, perhaps this is why the people living in Northern Pakistan, who grow extensive crops of apricots and always eat the kernel, have no recorded cases of cancer... yet they live to well over 100 years!  You know the rate us Westerners are contracting cancer is now at 1 in 3 in the states and we are very close behind here in the UK. It is expected to be 1 in 2 within 20 years! Sobering thought huh!

 

You don't need to be one of nature's mental giants to work out what we are doing wrong! We are are eating far too much manufactured, refined, chemically adulterated and denatured food!

 

Supplementation is the key

If you can't buy phyto-nutrient dense food as a normal matter of course, then you have no option except to supplement your diet with appropriate herbal formulas from specialist and reputable, nutritional supplement suppliers. In the absence of supplementation, try growing as much of your food as possible from mineral rich soils. Buy local organically produced foods wherever possible which have been grown without the use of soil depleting artificial fertilisers.  However this is no guarantee you will get all the phyto-nutrients you need in sufficient quantities from your food, to prevent metabolic disease. Minerals can still be lacking from organically grown produce just like produce grown with artificial fertilisers and chemicals. Albeit organic produce is generally much better and safer for you! I only ever recommend organic produce because of the guarantee you have with it that is is devoid of toxic organic phosphate residues and other hormone mimicking chemicals that will play havoc with your system.

 

Ensure you have adequate intake of minerals for phyto-nutrients to be effective

It is a proven fact that certain  phyto (plant) nutrients protect us from disease.  Well known ones are lycopene found in sun ripened tomatoes and more recently red grape skin extract to name but two of dozens discovered in recent years.  However there are many other specific phyto-nutrients which have been used and documented by the Chinese for hundreds if not thousands of years.  Many of these plant compounds give excellent benefits for autoimmune problems such as psoriasis and arthritis. However I would suggest never to rely solely on using herbal extracts to reverse or treat any particular malfunction of the immune system. It is vital to also ensure you are getting adequate levels of trace elements and minerals for any other nutrient to be fully effective. I would further suggest never to buy any herbal supplement unless it is from a highly reputable source and developed by scientists with the experience and the credentials to ensure the product is appropriate and safe for you.

Saturated fat

Saturated fats have played an important part in our diets as we evolved over the last million or so years. Now despite the commercial drum that cereal manufacturers and other fast food manufacturers are continually beating, saturated fats are in fact good for us and protect us from disease. That flies in the face of what you thought to be true doesn't it! Well it is true! Around 30 to 40 years ago research was being carried out by various scientists and medical bodies into the role that saturated fat played in causing heart disease. Interestingly much of this research was funded by vested interests with a stake in the results!  Well again interestingly, they found that people who ate saturated fats had high cholesterol levels. Okay nothing startling about that. We are meant to have cholesterol in our bloodstream!  It plays a vital part in your good health. However the typical blinkered commercially funded medical research of the time latched onto cholesterol as the cause of heart disease. The myth of cholesterol, saturated fats and heart disease had begun!

 

A license to print money

This was like manna from heaven for the breakfast cereal manufacturers, the sugar manufacturers, and the chemical sludge manufactures... oops, I mean margarine manufacturers to grab hold of and exploit to the fullest possible extent. The guys who had funded the research in the first place.  Too bad we as the human race had lived on saturated fats for hundreds of thousands of years with virtually no heart disease and cancer for that matter. In fact we suffered as a species hardly any, if any, of these serious "modern" degenerative diseases in the past as we evolved. Oh no... that was totally irrelevant in the eyes of the medical people and the manufacturers who were funding this "break through" research. This was ground breaking stuff. A license to print money for BIG BUSINESS and BIG FOOD!

 

Food corruption

You can just see them in their boardrooms can't you. The drug company directors resolving to develop cholesterol lowering drugs. The vegetable oil company directors working out how they could produce ever more heat and chemical extracted oil from seeds and grains. The sugar manufacturers rubbing their hands in glee because the focus was off sugar as the number one cause of diabetes and heart disease, amongst so many other problems it causes. ("White Death" as sugar and refined white flour rightfully should be called.) The chemical companies now had open reign to develop ever more chemicals to add to food to make it softer, last longer, stop it rotting, to change the colour to hoodwink children, to make it taste different to a natural food and corrupt youngsters taste buds... and on and on...  with now literally thousands of chemicals appearing in our foods!

 

Disease starts in childhood

Is it any wonder many infants in their first tender formative years are becoming chronically ill. They then go on to develop into children with ADHD asthma, eczema, autism (that is another story in it's own horrific right!) and a host of other perplexing chronic problems the medical profession have absolutely no answer for except to prescribe synthetic drugs (read chemicals) for them. What a disgrace! Chemicals are causing the problem yet they prescribe even more chemicals. I digress. Lets get back to the issue of saturated fat.

 

Now why do you think saturated fat should suddenly become the bad guy in our diets when the human race has lived with saturated fats as a large component of their diet for so long? VESTED INTERESTS!  If there was no money to be made from the flawed research which was originally carried out, then the research would have been dead and buried by now. Latest research, in fact research for the last 20 odd years has been showing that:

 

Lets look at some of the myths and mistruths about vegetable oils  that have been touted over the last 30 odd years as being beneficial for us.

Chemical sprays and additives

Let's look at how margarine is produced and manufactured. First of all, vast tracts of land are sprayed with glyphosate (a chemical originally developed by Monsanto, one of the chemical company giants in the world) to poison all vegetation currently growing on that soil. Now glyphosate is a very useful chemical. It kills virtually everything it comes in contact with, yet allows most oil seed crops to grow without any toxic effects on the crop itself. Too bad if there are toxic effects on micro soil organisms.  That doesn't matter when profit is involved! (Glyphosate just happened to make hundreds of millions of pounds for the patent holders Monsanto by the way. But that is immaterial too of course!)  It meant huge areas of land could be more economically cultivated and vast areas sown with a mono-culture crop designed specifically for one purpose. As the oil seed crop is sown another chemical or chemicals are sprayed as a pre-emergent control for weeds that may germinate at the same time as the crop. So far so good.

 

Pesticides

Then the farmers have to use specific pesticides such as an organo-phosphate based compound and other insecticides to control specific insect pests that developed to devour this harvest of wonderful food conveniently grown for them in a mono-culture situation. Incidentally organo-phosphates were originally developed as chemical warfare nerve toxins by the Nazis during the World War and now thousands of tonnes of this powerful neuro-toxin is sprayed onto our food crops annually.

 

GM Crops

As time went by companies like Monsanto realised that if they developed special genetically modified plants then they could use higher rates of their chemicals on the land without the crop being affected adversely. Great! But how much of the extra chemical ends up in the plant being cropped if it doesn't affect the plant. How much of the chemical ends up in us? Genetically modified crops are worthy of a book in their own right. Ignore this peril at your cost! You can make a statement by ensuring you never buy anything that has GM Modified food listed on the label.

 

Fungicides

So a cycle of chemicals and ever more chemicals had started even before the margarine was out of the plant stage. Next giant combine harvesters come in and reap the crop and it is trucked away to a central location. Sometimes the harvest needs to be stored for long periods before the processing to extract the oil can take place. In many cases special chemical fungicides are sprayed on the grain or seed to stop mould developing and to stop any insect attack and to keep rodents away. Are you starting to appreciate that margarine involves a few chemicals already? Okay what happens now? Well here is the interesting part. Up until now the seed or grain may have been a relatively natural and edible grain as in the case of maize or sunflower seeds but all natural processes now fly out the window.

Solvents and heat = PROFIT

To return the maximum profit from the crop there are some special processes that the grain or seed must go through to extract every last drop of oil and money. After all this is BIG BUSINESS and they are after BIG PROFIT!  YOUR HEALTH does not enter into the equation!  Here is the rub! For the maximum quantity of oil to be produced from the crop, a combination of more chemicals and super heating of the seed or grain takes place. This process can be quite different for different crops but it all ends up achieving maximum returns from a given quantity of grain or seed. Powerful solvents are used to chemically pull the oil from the seed, then by super heating the oil the solvents are evaporated out of the oil making it "safe" for you to consume in your margarine.

 

"Safe" residues???

Sadly this process does not take into account that vegetable oils no matter what the crop, become potent sources of free radicals once the temperature is raised past approximately 180C degrees. Further, despite the manufacturers efforts to remove the toxic solvents, residues remain in "safe" quantities in the oil that you consume.

 

Butter butters margarine greases

But there is more. We all know that you can't "butter" your bread with oil. Well you can't "butter" your bread with margarine either!  However, the clever vegetable oil manufacturers would like to hoodwink you into believing that you can "butter" bread with margarine. It sounds a lot better than "greasing" or "sludging" or "oiling" your bread with margarine doesn't it!  So how do you "butter bread" with this chemical sludge. Well leave it to the imaginative BIG FOOD boys to figure that out.

 

Add a few more chemicals

Here's how they process the denatured oil through a few more steps before it is in a form that can be used as a natural butter substitute. Now, the oil is already a tasteless, slimy, viscous de-natured liquid that even the most desperate rat or insect would not eat because it does not contain any food value at all. So some essential vitamins are added, some synthetic colouring more often than not is added to make the oil resemble natural butter colour, some chemical anti-oxidants to make it last as long as butter, some chemical flavourings to make it taste like butter, and then the whole lot is hydrogenated to change the molecular structure of the oil and make it solidify and resemble butter. Then to stop it going hard in the fridge a chemical or synthetic emulsifier is added just for good measure!

 

Natural Margarine?????

Then some margarine manufactures have the hide to use the word "NATURAL" on the packaging that contains their particular brand of chemical sludge!   I can remember it being common place for doctors to tell patients to eat chemical sludge (read margarine) because it would protect their hearts from disease!!!!  It just shows how powerful vested interest propaganda is doesn't it. It is a very misinformed doctor today that would say the same thing. However, sadly some doctors still mistakenly believe vegetable oils no matter what the source, are good in your diet. Makes you wonder where doctors get their information from! There are some exceptions of course when it comes to vegetable oils.  If you source and use completely natural, cold pressed oils from an organic supply then I have no argument with that. Cold pressed virgin olive oil is one that springs to mind along with other natural cold pressed oils from sunflower and grape seed.

 

Toxic crops produce toxic oil

As a rule stick to cold pressed oils and only from a plant that you would be able to eat the fruit or seed of as part of your diet, that is if you had the choice to be able to pick the grain or seed and eat it.  Never consume oil or anything that comes from any plant that would not form part of the human diet.  An example is "Canola" oil made from the toxic rape seed!  Canola or rape seed oil should not be consumed by humans under any circumstances. Rape seed crops are one of the primary causes of seasonal hay fever and asthma attacks here in Britain. Does this give you some indication that perhaps the oil from the seed is not good for you? I could write a complete chapter on the dangers of consuming toxic rape seed oil. I will leave that for you to find out more information on however. Bear in mind if you consume any heat and chemically extracted oil that is from any source, whether the crop is able to be eaten by humans or not, then you are damaging your health and your ability to live a disease free life.

 

 

Well if you want to shorten your life and live a large part of it suffering some form of degenerative disease then this would be good advice to follow. However, I am sure you would prefer good health rather than spending years living in a twilight zone of chronic and debilitating symptoms for which doctors keep thrusting palliative drugs onto you. For all the reasons above, vegetable oils are not good in our diets to any great extent.

 

Essential oils came from whole foods in the main

Lets look a bit more closely at what is happening here and relate again to the way we evolved as hunter gatherers. You can rest assured our ancestors never succeeded in extracting oils from seeds and grains. Sure there may have been some minor examples of certain races using a particular crop like olives and finding ways to cold press the oil out in usable quantities. This is an excellent and natural oil and it provides valuable omega 6 essential fatty acids in the diet. But the quantities produced were never great and it was always consumed within the area the oil seed crop was grown in. The bulk of omega 6 essential fatty acids came from eating nuts and seeds from a seasonal harvest and was completely adequate for our needs.

 

Vegetable oils played no large part in diet previously

The vast bulk of the human population had no access to any supplies of extracted vegetable oils in any form whatsoever. So how come nutritionists think that more must be better for you?  Again we have to look at how research has been funded over the years by vested interests. If you were a scientist working independently doing research and you knew that the very reason you were employed was because of a huge grant to the foundation or organisation your worked for was from vested interest, then perhaps it would not be in your own interests to shoot yourself in both feet at once. What I am saying here is that it is easy to wear blinkers when you are expected to come up with the right goods. Why complicate the issue by investigating the fact humans have survived and flourished without vegetable oils in the diet for the last several hundred thousand years or so.

 

Flawed results

So what happens?  Great emphasis is placed on research about populations like the Italians and other Mediterranean races who apparently have a much lower rate of heart disease. Well yes this is true and most of them do carry their age well and without anywhere near as much degenerative disease including heart disease as us here in Britain and other colder countries such as in Scandinavia. Now what the researchers conveniently omitted to look into was the role that omega 3 played in the diets of all these people. Omega 3 which is sourced not only from fish of course, which most of them consumed regularly but from the fat of grass fed animals and the cream and butter from the same animals. No the scientists were paid to come up with results that would favour the vegetable oil manufacturers. It was unthinkable to suggest that saturated fats just may have had a large bearing on the good health of these people.

 

Latest research completely reverses earlier findings

I guess the latest research conducted in France really does show how valueless most of that earlier research was into vegetable oils. The French study shows unequivocally that although they, the French, eat far more saturated fats than the British they suffer far fewer heart attacks and degenerative disease, (including cancer) is less than what it is in Britain. The French seem to cope much better with their NHS over there too.  Perhaps it is because there is far less demand for palliative care in France compared to the UK. Coincidence? I think not!

 

"The commonly-held belief that the best diet for the prevention of coronary heart disease is a low saturated fat, low cholesterol is not supported by the available evidence from clinical trials. In the primary prevention, such diets do not reduce the risk of myocardial infarction or coronary or all cause mortality. Cost-benefit analyses of the extensive primary prevention programmes, which are at present vigorously supported by Governments, Health Departments and health educationalists, are urgently required."

What happened to traditional fish and chips?

The problem for westernised countries stems from the gradual infiltration of vegetable oils into our diets in all sorts of insidious ways. Once upon a time the good old British fish and chips used to be cooked in animal fat, beef dripping!  Well I can't really condone the use of any deep frying as a healthy food but I can certainly recommend deep frying using animal fat in preference to a chemical and heat extracted vegetable oil. For a start animal fat will take around 30C degrees more in temperature before it becomes carcinogenic and produces free radicals. Consume overheated and rancid vegetable oils (and animal fats) on a regular basis and drop dead of heart attack without warning!  Look at all your manufactured foods you buy and you will see vegetable shortening and oils in preference to saturated natural fats every time. There is a major imbalance occurring in our systems because of this predominance of commercial vegetable oils and excess omega 6 in our diets.

 

The great Aussie "barby"

Having lived in Australia for a good number of years I witnessed many people doing just that. Dropping dead from heart attacks caused by free radical activity within their arteries which in turn was caused by over heating fats and oils of all descriptions on the great Aussie barbeques.  Barbeques which take place as a matter of ritual all over the country! The times I have seen commercial cheap vegetable oil tipped onto a smoking barbeque plate with flames licking up around the edges and then a great piece of beautiful prime steak thrown on and seared to a charcoal black on the outside and burnt until every vestige of goodness has been driven from this otherwise good food makes me shudder. No wonder the Australians are leading the world with the heart attack rate they suffer! 

 

Heart attack strikes without warning

I recall a fellow I knew well in Australia. A robust physical worker who to all intents and purposes was in the prime of life in his mid thirties. Every weekend was spent water skiing on Lake Keepit in Northern NSW. The traditional Australian beers and barby was the way to finish the day of course. Barbeques also feature in heavily in the home cooking arrangements of most Australians as they did for this fellow. Unfortunately Barry (not his real name) dropped dead from a sudden heart attack when he was just 37. A post mortem showed he had arteries congested to the same stage as the average man has taken 75 plus years to reach. What was the cause? Free radical activity along with the production of homo cysteine which results in artery plaque. What causes this to occur? Well one of the major contributing factors is over heating and burning vegetable oils and to a lesser extent burning animal fats!

 

Use a natural saturated fat like ghee

So to start finishing this section on vegetable oils. Take care with the type of vegetable oil you use and make sure it is never heated to smoking point. Chinese wok cooking springs to mind here. Smoke the oil in the hot wok then throw in some perfectly good vegetables and carcinogise them in the smoking oil and dish them up as a healthy food! Well as far as I am concerned you can reserve your Chinese wok cooking for those who want to accelerate cancer and heart disease. Perhaps if you were to use clarified butter (ghee) or animal fat which takes the heat a lot better and you carefully controlled the heat to around 180c degrees then I may agree Chinese wok cooking can be a healthy way of preparing food and not be detrimental to your health.

 

Grass fed animals versus grain fed animals

Now to add a final section here I would like to explain about animals that are grass fed and animals that aren't grass fed. Grass fed and browsing animals develop fat containing the exact ratio between saturated fats and the essential fatty acids we need to protect our health. Perhaps no coincidence here when you think about it. After all, we have been, at least our ancestors have been, killing the fat animal to eat since time began. None of this lean meat for them!  A fat animal was always the healthy animal and our ancestors always knew that eating fat with the meat protected them from disease. Whereas, when times were lean and the lean animals were eaten, then often disease would set in. They had it worked out back in those days! At least they had the experience of practical knowledge without some scientific boffin telling them what they were doing was wrong and exhorting them to eat something totally foreign to their natural diet. 

 

Grain fed animals

So what about animals that are grain fed by comparison with the grass fed animals. The meat from grain fed animals is usually tender and marbled with fat, as far as beef is concerned. Yes but browsing and grazing animals such as cows are not meant to eat a diet high in grains and cereals. Just like us it is not healthy for them to live on a diet of cereals and grains. For a start they are kept completely inactive and fed in a barn. They don't get sunlight nor the freedom to move around as a grazing animal should and it shows up in the balance of saturated fats to essential fatty acids in the animal itself and in the butter produced from dairy cows which are fed an exclusive diet of grains and meal. The ratio swings heavily towards the saturated fat and very low on the essential omega 3 fatty acids. What once was a good food is no longer so.  Man once again in his infinite wisdom has interfered with nature and turned a healthy wholesome food into something far less than healthy and wholesome.

 

Marbled fat in the meat

Generally you can always tell the difference between grain fed beef and grass fed beef very easily by looking at it. Grass fed beef is rarely if ever marbled with fat through the meat itself. Although the animal can certainly get very fat on grass, seldom does the meat marble with fat. This is due to the fact that the muscles are constantly being used to transport the animal from place to place in the course of it's daily activities. Whereas the poor grain fed animal is confined, often into an extremely small space to limit its movement so the meat remains very tender and becomes marbled with fat. If you enjoy eating meat then I suggest if you want to buy beef that is free range and very healthy for you, then you cannot beat New Zealand or Australian beef. It is wholesome grass fed in the main and far fewer chemicals are used during the raising of the animal. Almost without exception they are raised eating grass outdoors. That is not to say you can't buy British meat that is good for you.  It is just a bit more difficult to do so. Look for organic sources of British beef and see if you can find a supply where the animal is grazed outdoors most of the year.

 

Dairy cows and butter

Now what about dairy cows fed indoors on a diet of grass silage, maize silage, grains, soy and other commercially produced meal and processed foods? Well depending on the quantity of grains and meal in the diet compared to the quantity of silage, the butter can have varying ratios of omega 3 to the saturated fats. Year round grass fed dairy cows as you find in New Zealand in particular, produce very yellow butter which is excellent for your health because it has the perfect balance of fats again. However cows kept indoors for a large part of the year and fed grass and maize silage plus grains and soy and rape seed amongst many other often questionable ingredients do not produce cream/butter high in omega 3.  Next time you are in the supermarket check out the difference in colour of butter from Denmark where most cows are kept indoors all year, butter from the UK where they generally spend around five to six months outdoors and butter from New Zealand where cows are completely free range and grass fed all year round . It is rather obvious going on the colour which butter contains the most Omega 3. Year round grass fed animals from New Zealand win hands down.  The British butter is somewhere in between with Danish butter being an insipid imitation of proper nutrient rich omega 3 butter.

 

Summing up

So to sum up this section on fats and oils. Ensure you never overheat any fat or oil, particularly vegetable oils. If you do use any vegetable oils always use the cold pressed types and preferably from an organic source. A natural choice would be cold pressed virgin olive oil. Never use margarine for anything despite the hype associated with the advertising of so-called cholesterol lowering margarines. Always use butter as the only choice for buttering bread and for any cooking using low heat. Clarify the butter or use animal lard for higher heat when frying or wok cooking. Select meat from grass fed animals only. Eat grass fed beef or lamb and use free range butter which is naturally high in Omega 3 essential fatty acids as a matter of course.

 

 

I haven't mentioned fish in this section on fats.  However, it goes without saying that Omega 3 is present in good quantities in all wild oily fish including salmon. But before you rush out and buy farmed salmon.... If you believe eating farmed salmon will supply adequate quantities of Omega 3 think again. Man once again in his infinite wisdom has altered the food supply fed to the animal and the omega 3 fatty acids are no longer prevalent in the fish!

 

Unfortunately a very serious problem is showing up wild fish stocks in some areas of the world. Not that they lack omega 3 but in the very high concentrations of mercury in wild fish. The livers of fish eating whales such as hump backs and many other species of whale are showing mercury concentrations of up to 5,000 times the recommended safe levels for humans!!!! Now I know we don't eat whale livers (although the Japanese do), but it just goes to show that the mercury is entering the food chain in a big way and whales being at the top of the food chain in the sea are copping it seriously. If we are eating fish contaminated with mercury then this insidious neuro toxic poison will accumulate in us too! Man once again is seriously disrupting a natural and wholesome food supply! As a young man in New Zealand in the late sixties and early seventies I spent a large part of my time building my own agricultural chemical spraying business. This involved using "safe" chemicals designed to do a specific job of killing or poisoning the pest or weed they were designed for. Unfortunately most of these chemicals were inadequately tested and many of them have since been removed from the market place. Chemicals I used and were subjected to on a daily basis included the deadly organo-phosphates for sheep dipping and 245-T one of the infamous chemicals used in the "Agent Orange" debacle in Vietnam to defoliate the jungles. I also used a whole host of other "safe" yet now proven dangerous and toxic chemicals.

 

I start this chapter with my own personal experience of chemicals to give you some idea of how the toxic side effects of chemicals and drugs can build up in your system and cause ongoing serious effects which the medical profession will in turn prescribe ever more drugs (read chemicals) for.

Sensitized to all chemicals

As a result of my exposure to chemical toxins I have become sensitised to most of today's synthetic chemicals and have suffered with puzzling and debilitating symptoms for a large part of my life. At first when I approached the medical profession about heart rhythm disturbances I was experiencing they decided after extensive tests that it was a psychological problem!  To this day I still can't get over the sheer arrogance of a profession, that when they encounter a problem which they have no answer for, to dismiss it as psychological! This attitude of placing the blame for the patients problems back onto them is the standard procedure for many in the medical profession to follow when they have no knowledge of what is causing the problem in the first place. It has contributed to the spiralling rate of mental illness and other chronic conditions for which ever increasing quantities of dangerous synthetic drugs are prescribed for.

 

See how many of these symptoms which I have experienced on a more or less regular basis for many years that you can relate to. All of them caused by Multiple Chemical Sensitivities to a large degree and to a lesser extent intolerance to specific foods and refined carbohydrates.

Well, give very serious consideration to the long term toxic side effects of drugs. To give you some idea of how the problem compounds lets look at what the heart specialists prescribed for me to control my dangerously erratic heart rate.

Tambocor (Flecainide Acetate)

Tambocor is prescribed to treat certain heart rhythm disturbances, including paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (a sudden attack or worsening of irregular heartbeat in which the upper chamber of the heart beats irregularly and very rapidly) and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (a sudden attack or worsening of an abnormally fast but regular heart rate that occurs in intermittent episodes).

 

Tambocor may sometimes cause or worsen heartbeat irregularities and certain heart conditions, such as heart failure (the inability of the heart to sustain its workload of pumping blood). Before prescribing Tambocor, your doctor will weigh the drug's risks and benefits. Your condition will be monitored throughout your treatment.

What side effects may occur?

Tambocor has a wide variety of possible effects on the heart, including new or worsened heartbeat abnormalities, heart attack, congestive heart failure, and heart block--an interference with the heart's contraction. If any develop, inform your doctor immediately. Only your doctor can determine whether it is safe for you to continue taking Tambocor.

Why should this drug not be prescribed

Your doctor should not prescribe Tambocor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it or you are sensitive to it, if you have heart block (without a pacemaker), or if your heart cannot supply enough blood to the body.

 

Special warnings about this medication

If you have a pacemaker, you should be monitored very closely while taking Tambocor--your pacemaker may need to be adjusted.
If you have liver disease, Tambocor could build up in your system. Your doctor will prescribe the drug only if the benefits outweigh the risks. In addition, you should have frequent blood tests to make sure your dosage is not too high.
If you have a history of congestive heart failure or a weak heart, you may be at increased risk for dangerous cardiac side effects from Tambocor.
If you have very alkaline urine, perhaps caused by a kidney condition or by a strict vegetarian diet, your body will tend to process and eliminate Tambocor rather slowly and you may need a lower-than-average dosage.
If the potassium levels in your blood are too high or too low, your doctor will want to correct the condition before allowing you to take Tambocor.
If you have kidney failure, your doctor will want to watch you closely.
 

Possible food and drug interactions when taking this medication

If Tambocor is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Tambocor with the following:
Amiodarone (Cordarone)
Beta blockers (blood pressure drugs such as Inderal, Tenormin, and Sectral)
Carbamazepine (Tegretol)
Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Diltiazem (Cardizem)
Disopyramide (Norpace)
Nifedipine (Procardia)
Phenobarbital
Phenytoin (Dilantin)
Quinidine (Quinidex)
Verapamil (Calan, Isoptin)  (This is without taking into account the possible synergising effects of Tambocor  to everyday chemicals we are all exposed to in our diet and personal care items. My comments)

 

Special information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

The effects of Tambocor during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. Tambocor should be used during pregnancy only if the benefit justifies the potential risk to the unborn child. Tambocor appears in breast milk. What do you think of prescribing a chemical drug with all these potential side effects? Perhaps you may appreciate that the problem I used to have was greatly compounded by administering this drug. When in reality all that was needed was an holistic approach to overcoming or at least enabling me to live with a problem that chemicals had caused in the first place. Oh yes I hear you saying, "But I haven't been exposed to chemicals like him!" Think again!  Every time you clean your teeth look at the label and reassure yourself that the chemicals in your toothpaste are "safe"!  Shampoo your hair and look at the label and see what you just absorbed through your scalp. Did you see SLS? Your moisturiser, your shaving cream, your bubble bath, your hand cream, did you see propylene glycol or formaldehyde? Nearly all products are potential sources of toxins entering your body.  I could give you example after example of toxic chemicals you either eat, put on your skin or are exposed to during the course of your daily activities. So called "safe" chemicals just like the "safe chemicals" I used to handle which caused all my problems are everywhere. We absorb them by various means and wonder why we encounter health problems.

 

What took only a matter of a few years to accumulate in my system from handling toxic chemicals may well be accumulating in your system too. It will just take longer for the chemical sensitivities to manifest than what it did with me. But rest assured that continual exposure to low level dosages of toxins, just like smoking, will accumulate and cause severe and debilitating conditions as you age.

 

So without trying to alarm you too much as far as synthetic drugs are concerned... try to find out more information about the actual drug (s) you or your loved one is using. Balance up what I have written here with the side effects of the drug and then give serious thought to implementing an elimination approach to your diet and to your toiletries you currently use. By getting the toxic substances out of your life you do stand a reasonable chance of either maintaining your already good health or regaining control of your life.

 

It is about time each and every one  of us took the responsibility for our own health rather then leaving it too doctors to decide what is best for you.

Life is a many faceted experience. As we travel on life's pathway we tend to draw many troubles in on ourselves. So much so, that we may become overwhelmed with a greed and a concentration on the material things in life. True riches in life are not material riches but an understanding of life itself. The true meaning of life often escapes most of us. We are on this planet for a very short time. Yet collectively, we have an innate ability to do untold damage to our environment and to our less fortunate fellow human beings as we hurry down the highway's of our lives.

Take a break and smell the roses

Step off the highway of life and reassess where it is leading you. Is it leading you to an inner peace and understanding of the basic laws of nature? Or is it instilling in you a never ending need to have and acquire ever more material wealth? Does money buy you health and happiness if you are disliked and disrespected by your peers? I think not! We all need the respect and love of our family and friends to be truly healthy in mind body and soul.

Troubled times

Now I know in these troubled times of ever increasing disparity between the wealthy and the poor, it is difficult to see how we can ever be happy unless we are able to have that overseas holiday each year and a new car every second or third year. Plus it seems all families must have a second car now and a TV in more than one room in the house. Perhaps a computer and one for the kids and send the kids to Uni... It goes on and on!  In our grandparents day no such emphasis was placed on material wealth. What change there has been!

 

 

Pressure is exerted from all directions... via the media with their glossy images of sleek people in smart cars and homes. The mere fact we see our friends "achieving success" exerts pressure on us to also do all the recognised things that we in the "enlightened" Western cultures are expected to do.

Take stock

We must take stock and begin to understand that the true wealth of life is not material. The riches of life, is life's experience itself. Our lives are for understanding and facing. Often an understanding of life only comes after we have experienced true misery. Only then can we develop a new capacity to understand others and reach into our inner depths for spiritual peace and tranquillity. How can we ever comprehend true inner peace if we have not experienced inner turmoil, depression and great sadness? The very fact we do not understand the true reason for life can contribute greatly to our "dis-ease" of mind and body.

Greater understanding

For a greater understanding of true inner peace we must turn to nature and observe how nature creates balance and harmony within it's own bio-system. Each aspect of nature is part of a whole and we must realise that we too, although individuals, are also part of this vast universal wholeness. From the food we eat to the lives we lead, we, the human race, have interfered with this creation of wholeness and have caused an imbalance. We mirror unto ourselves that which we project. If you see in others, things to despise, you need to look at yourself carefully. It could be you, that you are seeing in the mirror of your life!

Energy is returned

We cannot take from life that which we do not put into it. If we give no happiness, nor love, then we shall receive none in return. To be liked we have to be likable. What we give out in energy, good or bad, is always returned to us. Good energy begets good energy in return. The reverse is also true! Do unto others as you would like have done unto you and you can't go too far wrong. We seek so much in our lives yet we trample on what is at our feet. If you trample on lesser mortals  with total disregard for this universal law, then invariably you will suffer the consequences in some shape or form.

Forces of nature

Your physical body is only the vehicle or the dwelling place for your inner spirit. Our body's are perpetually influenced by the ever changing forces of nature and the laws of the Universe. Our body is the physical aspect of our existence and when the body wears out, our spirit moves on. Our spiritual selves within the physical body is as important if not more so than the body itself. Often inner peace of mind must first be accomplished before true healing of physical symptoms can occur. This is where "Healers" can play a large part in starting the process of becoming well. Well-being is not just a body free from pain. It is a state of being, where the whole of the person is in harmony. Healing is not necessarily the instantaneous miracle of throwing away crutches and walking. Nor is it a crutch or protection against the troubles of life as so many think. The person who wishes to become well must play their own part in their desire to be healed, a desire to be whole and balanced, a desire to join again in the wholeness of being.

Complex being

Man is a very complex being of Body, Mind and Spirit. He can, so easily become unbalanced and disorientated with himself and with life in general. True healing always encompasses the treatment of a person as a whole. Once the mind is balanced and the spirit is strong, the body has the platform to start to build from again. Once this is accepted then we can go forward again and begin to experience true wellbeing in the fullness of life.

Meaningful existence

An example could be a person who has been hurt by another’s thoughtless actions. A resentment and sometimes a consuming hatred builds up in that person, causing much pain and ongoing suffering often leading to chronic illness. Until this inner blockage is removed and replaced by true love and empathy for others, then the pain and suffering will remain. Have you heard the expression “They should do something about it.”? When we realise that “they” are us and "we" should do something about it, then and only then will we have a true depth of understanding. We are individually and collectively responsible, for all our thoughts, actions and deeds. As we give out in life, so shall we receive in life. It is by our actions and deeds, rather than by what we say, that our existence on this planet becomes meaningful!

The harmony of life

We must constantly seek to improve ourselves! Think of yourself as a piano which is tuned by an expert who has learned his art over many years. A finely strung instrument in perfect harmony capable of playing the most beautiful music. But if the strings become slack or perhaps break, then there is discord and no harmony. We are all finely tuned instruments and will suffer the same discord as the piano when we are are in a state of imbalance in our body and soul. Our strings of life must be well strung and tuned at all times if we are to enjoy our physical existence in this world. When we achieve mental and physical balance, then we bring unto ourselves, all that is good and great about life.

Less emphasis on material things

We need to place less emphasis on the materialistic aspects of this world where money seems to mean so much to so many. Can it buy the the tranquillity of a meandering stream in the country side, the majestic power of rushing waterfall, the love of a child, the peacefulness of an evening sunset, the blueness of the sky, the warmth of the land, the sparkle of the sun on the ocean swell, the smell of daffodils in the spring or... the love and respect of a soul-mate? When we start to see "The Energy" flowing through all in nature around us, then we start to realise that the blockages residing within ourselves must also be cleared, for true healing of the physical body to take place!
